Rene Alvarenga, M.D.

My name is Rene Alvarenga. I was born and raised in Jocoro, a small rural town in El Salvador. From a young age, I aspired to become a physician. I attended medical school at Universidad Dr. Jose Matias Delgado with the dream of pursuing medical training in the United States. This dream started to come true when my family moved to Tennessee in 2015.

In 2023, after graduating from medical school, my wife and I moved to Tennessee, bringing with us many dreams and goals. I was fortunate to interview with Tennova North Knoxville Medical Center’s program, which perfectly matched my aspirations and exceeded my expectations. With my parents already residing here and my long-standing enthusiasm for the Vols and Preds, choosing to stay in Tennessee to advance my medical career and serve the community was an easy decision. I am incredibly excited about the opportunity to grow and learn, aiming to become the best physician I can be while embracing everything this gorgeous East Tennessee has to offer.

I was eager to stay in Tennessee, which I consider my second hometown, and I am deeply excited to start this new chapter of my professional career. Being part of the inaugural class at Tennova NKMC is an incredible honor. The program offers unparalleled opportunities for growth and personalized development, along with the exceptional hospitality and kindness of the faculty and staff. I am driven to begin this residency, eager to learn, and contribute to its success.

When it comes to my hobbies and interests, I love soccer and football, and I enjoy working out. I’m also a BBQ and whisky tasting enthusiast. But enough about me – here’s a photo of my beautiful wife and our adorable dog, Milo.
